mainly some Debian changes/improvements:
  * Added notes about the usage of the Phidgets to README.Debian.
  * Now creates a system group (adduser --system).
  * Improved conffile handling. The group is now defined/stored in
    /etc/default/libphidgets, ucf handles the file.
  * Added handling for renaming of the group during reconfiguration.
  * Now uses a state machine and allows backing up with debconf.
  * Removed untranslateable templates from debconf.
  * Updated French translations (thanks to Christian Perrier).
  * Added German debconf translations.

some more changes require updates to the French translation. we'll wait...
libphidgets for Debian
----------------------

To use the Phidgets, you need to have read and write access to the USB
filesystem device nodes that this package automatically creates, if hotplug is
installed. Assuming that you chose the group 'phidgets' (the default) to be
the one able to access the devices, you could give access to user martin like
so:

  adduser martin phidgets

Now martin would need to log off and on again for the group membership to come
into effect. Then, he can access the Phidgets through libphidgets as expected.

Please avoid working as root just to be able to work with the Phidgets. The
above procedure is not complicated and Just Works (tm), and it's a lot safer!
